| Scratch is an
independent documentary about DJ turntablism within the
urban / hip-hop and experimental electronic musical genres.
The film revolves around a dozen different artists who speak
with their hands on wheels of steel including DJ Shadow,
DJ Q-Bert,
Cut Chemist (of
Jurassic 5),
Afrika Bambaataa, Mix Master Mike (of
Beastie Boys fame),
DJ
Shortee, DJ
Faust, The
X-Ecutioners and many others. Each
artist shares their experience within the sub-genre they’ve
mastered over the last 20 years and who they feel was the
pioneer of the format. Not surprisingly, the most
influential song to the majority of the artists was Herbie
Hancock’s hit single “Rockit” released in 1982…
The film hit theatres in New York City
on February 15 and has opened sporadically in a number of
markets around the U.S. A Scratch Tour featuring Dilated
Peoples, DJ
Z-Trip, Afrika Bambaadaa plus various special
guests took place between February - March. Synners hit the
streets to help promote the film and a few tour dates from
coast to coast... |
